When I returned to Guanajuato in November these statues of Leonora Carrington (6 April 1917 – 25 May 2011) were popping up all over town. They were erected for the International Cervantino Festival. I found them rather captivating and decided to photographed them. Ms. Carringnton was born in England and Lived in Mexico. Her second husband Emerico Weisz (nickname “Chiki”), born in Hungary 1911, a photographer and the darkroom manager for Robert Capa during the Spanish Civil War. I have found her life story also quite fascinating.
